What I miss about Manhattan

-The sound of the garbage trucks doing their rounds at 2, 4 and 6 o'clock in the morning.

-The smell of urine as you wait for the N train on the way to work.

-The homeless people endlessly begging for change, singing, dancing, playing instruments, majic tricks and harrasing people on the subway.

-The 10 minute wait for coffee at star bucks in the morning.

-The lost tourist.

-The slow tourist.

-The fat tourist.

-The tourist looking up at the buildings.

-The rats on the street in soho.

-The rude service at any pizza place.

-The bad smell in the cabs.

-The loud drunks at night.

-The starving artists.

-The transportation.

-The good looking people.

-The hundreds of restaurants to choose from.

-The different languages you hear everyday.

-The effortless fashionable people that roam the city.

-The fashion.

-Listening to my ipod on the subway.

-Reading a book on the subway.

-Not needing a car.

-The cute boy that checks you out on subway.

-When people notice who you're wearing.

-The doormen.

-The gays.

-The expensive small apartments.

-The career oriented people.

-The ability to meet someone different everyday.

-The feeling of being in the best city in the world.

Skinnies?

So, I'm in search for the perfect pair of skinny jeans, I'm sure I won't have much luck in minnesota, but i'll be in NYC next month and will have to do some damage, especially since I still get my 50% off at diesel :-)

People around here need to try something new. Instead of having 8 pair of loose boot cut jeans (which they then tuck into Uggs) get a variety of fits and mix it up. Let's have some personality in what we were people!!

Logos

I took a walk through the mall of america during my lunch today, and aside from them being fakes, people still managed to think it was cool to flash their logos. I've never been a fan advertising logos, I mean, the occastional Louis Vuitton brief case, but other than that I keep it subtle.

Now adays, all of Louis Vuittons bags have the LV and all of Chanel is dripped in those damn C's, even the clothing, Coach and Gucci make me sick to my stomach. When did it become out of style to have personal luxury? Isn't the point of luxury goods that it's so well made that it speaks for itself without the shouting of the logo?

Spider Necklace

So yesterday for my 25th Birthday on Friday the 13th.. I figured I'd wear a spider to fit the appropiate unlucky day, and who better than a little Marc Jacobs. I got this in new york years ago before his Marc by Marc Jacobs collection became ever so popular, and was made much better. Now, all the accessories are lame and not well made.. sorry Marc, totally my favorite necklace and color though.

Aurora Borealis

It was about 10:00pm, and I was driving down the highway to meet up with my friend Hector. The Minnesota highways are quite dark and there are no mountains or hills to sculpt the skyline. A burst of color appears at the corner of my eye and I turn to see what looks like the sun rise. I see this wave of a green-ish yellow flowing in the sky and immediately think I'm about to be abducted by aliens.

It was beautiful, and there I sat in my car driving towards this dancing energy in the sky forgetting about my destination and life itself. I pulled over to admire the view and stood dumbfounded with the endless possibilities that our universe has to offer.

I could picture someone holding this fabric of color over me, almost like when you're making the bed and the satin bed sheets tumble toward the ends. And then it hit me. The inspiration for my collection.... I stood there staring at Aurora as if she followed me, as if she was meant for me.

My mind.. filled with creativity and endless like my inspiration, led me to build a series of dark silhouettes with bursts of color at the mid-waist. Dancing fabrics draped on the body to form nothing more than natural movement.

This experience was nothing like I've seen in pictures. It was powerful, natural and uncontrolled. The only way for me to express what I saw is by my art. Hopefully others can feel my vision.

Viktor & Rolf

For Viktor & Rolf's Fall/Winter 2009 Collection they sent down Roman-esk statuette like figures down the runway. Swagging this liquid like jersey to create draped look really worked in their collection.

I love the way they sculpt fabric into their ideas.

Comme des Garçons

When you think so far out of the box that the box becomes deconstructed, asymmetrical and upside down... It becomes Comme Des Garcons.

Rei Kawakubo's mind must be filled with fascinating things. I mean.. she's Genius! To take everyday garments and deconstruct them in ways that are beautiful takes an artist.

I became infatuated with Japanese designers while working at Issey Miyake. I learned that femininity is more than just having a fitted garment. It taught me construction in ways I could never imagine. It taught me to understand and appreciate the basic form and shapes given to us. It helped me be creative. It taught me true art.

Japanese designers have become inspiring to me. They understand fashion/art in a completely different way than Americans, and has turned me into the designer I am today.

Zoe

Gosh.. I love me some Rachel Zoe, I wasn't really into the show until the end of the season when I watched it and realized how passionate she is about fashion and how much she loves what she does. Reminds me of myself and what I'm aiming towards.

Global Warming Ready?

This wierd weather makes me think of global warming. I mean, I remember for my birthday in march in new york/ pennsylvania i'd always have snow fall, and now, it barely snows in december.

This reminded me of when I worked for Diesel and we had the "Global Warming Ready" ads. Extremely controversial but soo true. What the world would look like after global warming affects can be left to the imagination, and diesel gave us a picture most weren't ready to see.

What a clever idea to mix what's affecting us globaly with fashion, but then again, as an artist, that's what we do isn't it?
